4 Weeks Old

Our sweet Mabel Caroline is four weeks old! I have been reading the blogs about other children with Trisomy 18 and was reminded what a miracle this is! Thank you Lord for the 28 days we have had with this beautiful girl.

I took this picture last night after the shift change when I went to see how my girl was doing and see who her night nurse was. It makes me giggle, because her little shoulder wouldn't stay in her outfit, that hat wouldn't stay on her head, and it took three or four tries to catch her looking at me. :)

  1. I'm a neighbor of the Loflin's & I just wanted to check in & say hello. This is such a sweet photo!! My brother & sister in law had an emergency C-section (like no prep & baby was born in less than 3 min) She was 36 weeks but their baby only weighed around 3 pounds. My sister in law was put in ICU & the baby in the NICU. The hospital had very strict "visitor" rules so when my brother asked if I would like to come to the NICU, I was so honored...but so scared! But when I got there, the environment was so calm. The nurses were so nice & just seemed to have such kind hearts. When we arrived, my brother walked me to Baby James "oven." The nurse came over and gave my brother the update & said we could hold him. Baby James had no clothes on but the nurses bundled him up & handed baby James to my brother. Baby James didn't look as little as I thought...I thought he looked like the perfect bundle of joy...until they rolled in a full size baby & parked the baby right next to Baby James!! Ok, I now had a reality check on just how precious -and little - Baby James was!! My brother & sister in law had a little bit of the opposite experience. Baby James measured small at 18 weeks & she had to go 3 times a week for an ultra sound. No appointment ever really brought good news & they were basically told that Baby James really did not stand a good chance of being born. But, he hung in there. He is 19 months old & weighs 16 pounds.
I am not sure why these precious bundles are handed such big challenges, but I'm so thankful that you are able to spend such precious time with Mabel & capture these great photos!! Mabel is a miracle and her parents are Heroes!!
Hang in there! I'm thinking of you all!!
